OS X does some periodic maintenance tasks at specific times. There are daily, weekly, and monthly periodic tasks that are launched in the middle of the night. If your Mac is not powered up 24 hours a day, probably some (or all) of those tasks are never (or seldom) performed.
You can find utilities around the net that allow you to manually launch those tasks, others (like anacron) that, once installed in the system, are repeatedly called to check any skipped cron task.
PseudoAnacron takes a different approach: at login (it's a startup application) it checks if the periodic daily/weekly/monthly task was skipped and in that case the task is launched; after that, PseudoAnacron quits, wasting no more CPU cycles.
Requirements: OS X 10.4 - 10.7.x. Universal Binary. 10.3.x users: download the 1.5 release.
Se come la maggior parte degli utenti non tenete acceso il vostro Mac 24 ore su 24, è poco probabile che il vostro OS X sia riuscito ad eseguire alcuni task di pulizia periodica che di default esegue di notte (attorno alle 3 di notte) ogni giorno/settimana/mese.
Potete trovare in rete delle utilities che permettono di lanciare manualmente questi task, altre (come anacron) che, una volta installate, vengono ripetutamente lanciate per controllare quali task cron sono stati saltati.
PseudoAnacron risolve elegantemente il problema senza "sporcarsi" le mani nel Terminale. Si preoccupa di verificare all'avvio se la pulizia periodica è stata saltata, e in tal caso provvede lui stesso a lanciarli; dopo di che termina l'esecuzione, senza rubare altri cicli di CPU al Mac.
Requisiti: OS X 10.4 - 10.7.x. Universal Binary. Utenti 10.3.x: scaricate la release 1.5.

This is an unoffical branch of the 2.1 GeekTool development to fix some problems, to ease the long waiting for a 2.2 (or 3.0) release.
Under Tiger (OS X 10.4) GeekTool 2.1(D7) causes a bunch of error logs like this one:
Also included are some code patches to improve log windows drawing speed and reduce CPU usage.

GeekTool 2.1(D7) usato con Tiger (OS X 10.4) causa un serie di avvisi nel log di sistema, dove avvertono che il programma utilizza funzioni Core Image obsolete (e non ufficiali) che verranno rimosse in future versioni di Tiger e che comunque causano un calo delle prestazioni del sistema.
Aspettando una release 2.2 ufficiale, questa versione risolve il problema sostituendo le chiamate obsolete, include la localizzazione in italiano e alcuni patch che migliorano le prestazioni e riducono il carico sulla CPU.
Se apprezzate questo mio contributo, potreste aiutarmi donandomi una piccola somma, ma ricordatevi anche che GeekTool è un (ottimo) prodotto di Tynsoe, non mio.
